I often feel less than smart reading your stuff, but today you hit me with the one two punch, I feel less gay as well. Much like when Alex had me sit down and watch the docu on Harvey Milk. I knew what the twinkee defense was but had no idea it involved the killing of a founding member of our political community.

If it makes you feel any better, I probably would not really know who she was except for two little twists of fate, as it were. One is that I did my senior thesis on homosexuality in the middle ages and my mentor was an English professor who introduced me to her book Between Men. The other is that I decided to take a graduate Queer Theories course outside my major (which later turned into pursuit of a certificate in Women's Studies), where I read a portion of Epistemology of the Closet, which is considered by many as the founding document of queer theory, although it never uses that term.

At least you have a Women's Studies program I suppose. That would probably be the place to go to request such a course be created. Or perhaps the American Studies program - looks like they already have some sort of course on the books.

Aw man.

I had to read parts of Epistemology of the Closet for one of my grad classes. It had a very profound effect on my thinking: queer theory, gender-as-performance, homosocial behavior...

Bummed out now.
