We found it late last night in our parking lot (well, actually the cactus patch beside our parking lot). It was yowling. We watched it for a long while and there were no other adult cats or kittens around, so we decided to try to catch it because it was in obvious distress. It took about a hour to corner and capture it. It's currently in the dog kennel on our back porch with a towel, food, and water. It is, shall we say, untamed. According to M, who has fostered lots of kittens, it is about 8-10 weeks old. Also, it is adorable. We're taking it to the vet tomorrow to get checked out (it has some sort of eye issue, maybe an infection or abrasion) and get advice on what to do next.
We will be placing it with a no-kill shelter or consider keeping it, depending on the health report and on what the vet says (and, if all that is good, how things go with Rio and Tessa). We were not looking for another animal, and if we were it would probably not be a kitten but an adult cat or dog, or in any case not a long-haired, clawed, feral or semi-feral kitten. But, when a kitten appears on the night of your anniversary, this is not a sign to be easily dismissed.
